RI Refused Request Of Japan To Evaluation Export Mine Material

Jakarta-Government through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources refused a request Japanese government to keep import of mineral raw materials after 2014.

"In the Law No. 4 of 2009 on the Mining Minerals and Coal was already clear that in 2014, the mineral raw materials must be processed in the country," said Director General of Mineral, Coal and Geothermal, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Thamrin Sihite in Jakarta, Friday, September 14, 2011.

Thamrin explain the government will consistently apply the policy of the Act No. 4 of 2009. With the processing of mineral raw materials in the country, the government hopes the added value gained will benefit Indonesia.

In line with that, Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Mining Expert, Irwandi Arif agreed with the steps the Ministry of Energy to continue to hold on to value-added downstream of mining by building the mining industry.

"The new paradigm in this Mining Law is a value-added, this became an important milestone for how mining can contribute to the state and society," he said.

As is known, the Minister of Economy, trade, and industry Yukio Edano, Japanese Ambassador Yoshinori Katori to Indonesia during his meeting with Minister of Industry, MS Hidayat had mentioned about the import of mineral raw materials.

Japanese delegation is asking the government policy on whether or not the rest of the mineral raw materials that have been processed for export. "I do not answer because I want to talk first with the relevant government," said Hidayat.
