2.8 Million Tons of Coal Could Not Through

Jakarta-Ministry of Transportation said the collapse bridge Kutai Kartanegara that crosses the Mahakam River, East Kalimantan led 30-40 barges transporting coal can not be crossed. Every time passed, about 70 thousand tons of coal passing through.

Some mining companies through the bridge, among others, PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN), Harum Energy Tbk (HRUM) etc., declared shipments of coal company would be disturbed by the collapse of the bridge Mahakam II, Kertanegara Kutai in East Kalimantan.

"Need help to take the debris so that coal could be the way the economy," said Transportation Minister EE Mangindaan in the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, November 28, 2011.

Mangindaan revealed that his ministry was ready to provide assistance to address the impact of the collapse of the bridge Kukar. For now, at least there are five types of assistance provided include evacuation of the dead and the provision of three barges to transport the debris remaining bridges.

Kemenhub also is working on the provision of four units of barges that come from private companies.

Other efforts Kemenhub is to build a command post at the police station and complaint handling Tenggarong, East Kalimantan. In addition it is helpful in planning an underwater survey.

To assist community activities, Mangindaan said it has provided a transport ship to transport the residents who attend school and work across the Mahakam river.

"Two ships unit roro (roll on-roll off) from Aberdeen and Slippery Rock in South Kalimantan prepared to assist the crossing," said Mangindaan.

In addition, Kemenhub has coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) for the provision of docks on both sides of the river. "If there is no dock, can not," said Mangindaan.
