Mitsubishi Corp. Build Coal Gasification Plant
Jakarta - Mitsubishi Corp. expressed interest to invest in the energy sector, particularly related to project processing of low quality coal (low rank coal) or gasification of coal (coal gasification) into natural gas. The plan, associated plant will begin construction this year.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Widjajono Partowidagdo, in the office of the Coordinating Ministry of Economic Affairs, Jakarta, Tuesday (3 / 1). "Mitsubishi has to offer it, cool gasification. With a price of 10 cents per Kwh, I think it's cheap," said Widjajono.
Related to this, the government plans to hold a formal meeting to discuss the details of such cooperation a step this week. "This week we will meet them," he said.
Widjajono added that the area that became the target object of development of coal gasification by the Japanese automotive companies is an area of Sumatra, because the area has lots of energy sources of coal. "The plan they will wake up in Sumatra in 2012," said Widjajono.
With the coal gasification, the government is optimistic the use of fossil energy will be smaller portions. "The potential of our coal is not it great, especially during this 80 per cent of our coal production exported. So if the coal is converted to gas not good," he added.
