Vice Minister of Energy: No Tolerance for Smelter

Jakarta - In accordance with the mandate of Law. 4 of 2009 on Mineral and Coal Mining, processing and refining of minerals should be done in the country, resulting in increased value-added production and control of mineral commodities. To that end, the Government will continue to monitor and supervise the implementation of policies to improve the added value. This increase in value-added policy applied not without foundation and a clear purpose.

According to Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Susilo Siswoutomo, now that could be processed in the country about 15-17 million tonnes per year, whereas the material which exported 50 million . therefore, he added, increasing value added through the purification process becomes very important to obtain an increase in revenue. Susilo asserted, for the smelter problems, the government is very loud claims no tolerance for companies that do not build the smelter, even the government will act decisively by not giving export licenses for companies that do not build the smelter. "For companies that are still below the economical processing of seeds, so they can collaborate with other companies to combine the results so that the construction of the smelter production can be more economical," he said as quoted, Tuesday (5/11). 

Susilo hopes, with the implementation of the processing and refining plant (smelter) will strengthen and develop the downstream sub-sector particularly minerals and coal downstream industry will strengthen national structures. Development refineries strategic value in the context of resource management energy and minerals for the welfare of the people in accordance with the four track stategy which have been proposed by the government, namely Pro Growth, Pro Job, Pro Poor and Pro Environment, he said. As we know, there are currently 97 proposals are still in the stage of feasibility study, as many as 28 smelter is expected to begin operations perform the planned refining operations for the six main products that must go through purification (nickel, bauxite, manganese, copper, iron ore and iron sand).
