Coal Production of Indonesia Rises 10% per year
Jakarta-The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed the production of coal in 2011 totaled 371 million tonnes and an increase of 10 percent per year.
"Coal production in 2011 approximately 371 million tons and tended to increase from year to year by 10 percent," said Director General of Development of Coal Mining Concession Edi Prasodjo, when met in the Coal Added Value at Hotel Le Meridien, Jakarta, Thursday (02/02/2012).
He said the domestic demand for coal has also increased, because the price of coal is more competitive than the price of oil. "Sales of overseas marketing dominates approximately 78 percent," he said.
He emphasized the need is still dominated by domestic coal for PLN to be used for power plants owned by PLN. "Because of the increasing number of power plant construction is completed so that domestic coal demand is increasing every year," he added.
Eddie further explained, the contract also contained clauses PKP2B shall give priority to meeting the needs of domestic coal to ensure supply to the domestic market. "The government has issued Candy ESDM No. 34 of 2009 on the DMO. But DMO still has a constraint that is a mismatch between the quality of coal required the domestic market," he continued.
Therefore, not all coal production to supply the domestic market of these mines. "To that end, the government set a quota transfer policy antarprodusen coal. And this policy is being evaluated," he concluded
